Tressed is an AI + AR powered beauty platform focused on helping people confidently choose wigs, bundles, and extensions online. The idea was simple: what if hair shopping could feel as accurate as looking in a mirror? With the help of facial scanning, personalised recommendations, and real-time AR try-ons, Tressed aims to make beauty shopping both high-tech and user-friendly.

Understanding the challenge

Buying wigs, bundles, and extensions online is tricky.
People don’t always know:


Which hair fits their face shape

What colour works for them

How a style will actually look

What to buy for their specific hair goals


Tressed needed to remove the guesswork and make online hair shopping feel personal, accurate, and fun.

Design solution

Tressed is a hair-focused e-commerce platform powered by AI scanning + AR try-on.

For the B2C experience, users can:


Scan their face and get AI-powered recommendations based on face structure, skin tone, and preferences

Try on wigs, bundles, and extensions using AR to see how styles look in real time

Answer a few guided questions so the AI makes more tailored suggestions


Browse and shop hair products directly after trying them on


The system suggests: Best wig styles, deal colors, Suitable lengths, Recommended hair products for their look.

And users can go straight from try-on → checkout smoothly.

My Approach

AI First: The experience starts with a face scan. I designed the flow to feel friendly, not technical.

Guided Questions: A short question flow helps the AI understand user goals (e.g., “natural look,” “bold colour,” “protective style”).

Realistic AR: The AR try-on had to feel as close to real hair as possible, so the interface is uncluttered and focuses on face alignment and style accuracy.

E-Commerce Foundation: After trying a product, users should be able to buy it instantly—no friction, no confusion.

The Outcome

6 months of design and refinement

Continuous collaboration with PM and engineers

B2C version currently in TestFlight with active beta testers

Users love the “try before you buy” experience

AI recommendations reduce uncertainty and improve purchase confidence

Reflection

Tressed was one of those projects that pushed me into the sweet spot between AI, AR, and commerce. My biggest focus was making the technology feel invisible so the experience could feel natural scan, try it on, buy.


As lead designer, I shaped the flows, guided the visuals, and made sure the try-on moment felt like the center of the entire experience.
